Donnie Yen, star of the Ip Man saga, is expected to join the fight alongside Keanu Reeves in the upcoming 4th instalment of the John Wick movie. According to Deadline, Donnie Yen has just been hired by director Chad Stahelski to join the action movie franchise.
“We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise”, Stahelski told Deadline. “I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role”.
“Donnie Yen will bring a vibrant and powerful energy to the franchise. We were determined to bring him on board to John Wick 4 and are thrilled for the opportunity to have such a major talent to collaborate with Keanu”, added the film producer Basil Iwanyk.
Like Jackie Chan and Jet Li, the 57-year-old Chinese actor is one of the biggest stars in martial arts cinema. The actor has also made notable appearances in American blockbusters such as Highlander Endgame, Blade 2, xXx Reactivated, Mulan and Star Wars Rogue One.
Donnie Yen will play an old friend of the character played by Keanu Reeves. And it seems they have enemies in common. The ensuing fights already make us want to watch the upcoming film, given that both are used to performing their own stunts.
Filming for the feature film will begin this summer in France, Japan and Germany. Plot details have yet to be revealed, but we can’t wait to see the movie.
