Drake has planned a Degrassi reunion for his “I’m Upset” music video. The Toronto rapper is gearing up to drop his next studio project Scorpion, out this June 29, and he has decided to release the visuals for his last song.
The single, that joins the recently released “Nice For What“, maintains a one-beat flow throughout the whole song, that provides the base for Drake’s dragging hip hop/rap. Dissing his ‘enemies’ while emphasizing how “upset” he is, Drake is back with his signature self-centered lyrics, that make the Canadian singer so relatable and one of the most freshest rappers on the scene right now.
Despite the theme of the song, the visuals for the video tell a different story. A sleepish Drake wakes up from his bed, aptly set in the Toronto Raptors stadium, in order to get ready for his high school reunion. His high school classmates end up to be the whole cast of Degrassi, Drake’s first television effort as an actor. In this unexpected throwback to the early 2000s, we can see the stars reprising their old roles as they dance out to Drake’s song.
The video, directed by “God’s Plan” director Karena Evans, is a nostalgic and visually stunning look into a typical American high school reunion. Unfortunately, the reunion is interrupted when the school’s gym burst out in flames and the stylish cast is forced to flee the scene.
