Ed Sheeran surprised fans and festival attendees by playing a secret gig at Latitude Festival last night (July 17). Following on from Alt-J’s headlining set at the Obelisk Arena, Sheeran began his hour long appearance on the smaller stage at 11pm. There where already rumours circulating about Sheeran making an appearance at the festival and it was confirmed shortly before the performance by Ed Sheeran saying on Twitter “iArena, 11pm – Latitude“.
A fan of Sheeran said after the show, “it was an amazing show, really intimate. Everyone was dancing and singing along. That’s the best time I’ve ever seen him, just because it was so small. You see him in stadiums, arenas and stuff, but it’s obviously amazing, the intimacy, so close to it“. Sheeran just keeps getting better and better, with last weekend performing to a sell out audience at Wembley Arena where he became the first solo act to headline the venue.
