Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale, Mad Men) will join Tiffany Haddish and Melissa McCarthy to create a great cast in New Line’s upcoming adaptation of the female-fronted crime comic, The Kitchen.
In the comic, set in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen, the Irish gangs rule the neighbourhood, mostly doing dirty work for the Italian mafia. But when the leaders are locked up in prison, it’s up to their wives to keep running the rackets. And once they get a taste of the fast life and easy money, the appeal becomes readily apparent and it becomes hard to stop.
Moss will play the wife of an abusive husband who finds that she’s fallen head-over-heels for for the danger and violence that comes with her new life. McCarthy will play a doting mother who leads the female initiative to take over the business, while Haddish will take on the role of an unknown woman willing to kill anyone that gets in the way of her interests.
The original comic was written by Ollie Masters with illustrations by Ming Doyle, with the first chapter of the series published in November 2015. Andrea Berloff, who co-wrote Straight Outta Compton, is set to make her directorial debut with the film.
The Kitchen has put together a surprising yet terrific cast, and this is quickly becoming a high-profile film to look out for. The film is currently set to hit cinemas on September 20, 2019.
