Elisabeth Moss has signed on to star in The Veil, a new thriller limited series in development for FX. Steven Knight has created the project and will serve as writer and producer.
The series will tell the story of a fraught relationship between two women who end up playing a deadly game of truth and lies all over the world, from Istanbul, to Paris, to London. With one of the two women holding a secret, the other fights to reveal the truth before thousands of people lose their lives.
Moss has emerged as basically the queen of television over the past decade. Her key role on Mad Men led to her starring role in The Handmaid’s Tale, which is currently shooting its fifth season, with Moss herself directing some episodes.
She also currently stars in Apple TV+ series Shining Girls, and led two seasons of Jane Campion‘s acclaimed crime series Top of the Lake. She had also signed on to star in Hulu’s true crime series Candy, but had to drop out due to scheduling issues. Jessica Biel has replaced her.
FX already have a working relationship with Knight, who created crime series Taboo for them. He’s also currently working on a new adaptation of Great Expectations for the network, which will star Olivia Colman.
Knight said in a statement:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be telling this story, which is truly international and very contemporary. We have gathered together some of the most talented people in the business. Working with Denise Di Novi is always a pleasure and I’ve wanted to work with Elisabeth Moss for a long time. Of course, FX and I are old friends. I think this will be a landmark television event.”
There’s no release details yet regarding the series, but Moss and Knight have a great track record, so The Veil will likely be worth checking out once it arrives.
