The Oscar Awards will hopefully be in person in some capacity this year, with the red carpet offering us a chance to see our favourite actors, actresses and artists out and about for a night-out! However, the event isn’t the only thing that people are waiting for. The pre and after-parties are almost as important as the ceremony.
Pop legend Sir Elton John, who is known for his pre-parties which are always for a good cause, is taking his Oscar Party virtual for the first time ever. Taking place on April 25, his 29th party this year will be in support of the AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.
Of course, a party needs hosts and alongside Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish, Neil Harris from How I Met Your Mother will also be hosting. According to him, “I’ve always been a huge supporter of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and could not be more honored to host this year’s virtual gala with my close friends Elton and David“.
Pop sensation Dua Lipa, who just won a Grammy Awards, has also been confirmed to be performing on the night, along with some surprise artists. According to reports, Dua is very excited to be performing with the icon, and has said the night “will be a dream come true” for the young star.
Regarding the party itself, the cause for which it is supporting this year is even more pressing because since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been over one million deaths from AIDS this year in sub-Saharan Africa.
The hour long event will be streamed on the Academy Awards website, and there are a number of tickets available for $19.99 on Ticketmaster if you would like to participate, with the iconic singer adding that, “Now more than ever, we need to ensure that one pandemic does not override another, […] who need our care, love, and support so we hope everyone joins us for this special one of a kind Oscar pre-party“.
The virtual event will be streamed in North America on April 25 at 7pm ET, 7pm GMT on April 26 in the UK and Europe, and 7pm AEST on April 26 in Australia and New Zealand, with an optional repeat at 10pm ET on April 26. The show is powered by Cisco Webex.
