Following her last single “Royalty” and several live shows over the summer already, Birmingham artist Eva Lazarus has returned with a new single titled “Lessons“, which features fellow Birmingham talent Kofi Stone, and is the lead single for her upcoming album Brandy Kisses, set for release in September.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Lessons”, Eva Lazarus says, “‘Lessons’ is about taking guidance from the things you regret. How there is opportunity for growth and so much power in acknowledgement and accountability. How lying to yourself can be easy but often has painful results. To be honest with yourself isn’t always instantly comfortable but it is valuable, it makes you stronger, it’s true freedom“.
The song sees Eza showing her versatility as she switches between effortless falsetto harmonies and powerful rap flows throughout the song. “Lessons” is reflective in tone, enhanced by looped vocals, spaced out synths and bluesy keyboard arrangements, that come together to form a smooth neo-soul musical backdrop for the song.
The track, which delivers a vital message that sometimes hardship is needed in order to gain strength, is then brought further to life by the lyrical wordplay of Kofi Stone.
“Lessons” comes with news of Eva’s 16-track sophomore album Brandy Kisses, which cohesively embodies the sounds that have shaped her, including soul, hip-hop and soundsystem culture. The project also includes previous single releases “How Am I Looking?” and “Royalty”.
