Our first glimpse of Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) back on set of the new X Files series, was unveiled on Twitter last night. The long awaited reboot of the cult 90’s Sci-Fi series The X Files is coming for a special six part event for Fox and will be aired at the end of January next year. Shooting started last Monday, June 8, in Vancouver and this little teaser shot will have fans everywhere salivating for more.
The X Files aired in 1993 and ran for nine seasons, concluding in 2001. There were also two spin off movies made and released in 1998 and 2008 respectively. The series had a film noir vibe and gripping complexity, exploiting the popularity of government conspiracy theories about the then ‘it’ monster of the decade, Aliens. The ‘will they or won’t they’ relationship between the two main characters, FBI agents, zealous UFO hunter Fox Mulder and cynical, pragmatist Dana Scully, arched and curved cleverly captivating the audience as successfully as their relentless quest for the truth.
Fox hinted that the series would be revived for six episodes in January this year. With Duchovney, Anderson and Mitch Pileggi, who played the stoic FBI boss, Walter Skinner back on board, it looks to be everything we could want from a reprisal. Community’s Joel McHale has also joined the cast, playing a web news anchor. How has Mulder and Scully’s relationship developed over the last few years? How will the now available technology effect the investigation techniques, and what will the plot focus on? Details are being kept highly under wraps so we will just have to wait and see… ‘The truth is out there’.
