If you didn’t already know, Bridget Jones will be returning to our screens in all of her clumsy glory very soon. A few months ago we were treated to a promotional photo of our leading lady Renée Zellweger and we’ve been offered a few glimpses of Zellweger’s dapper leading men, Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey. But now, thanks to Entertainment Weeky, we finally have our first photo of the trio together.
What a lovely view it is! It’s nice to see our favourite single gal back in business. While some things have remained the same, a lot has changed since we last saw Bridget. So where does the new film find her? Well, Bridget is 43 years old, single and apparently pregnant – and unsure of who the father is. Could it be Firth’s Darcy or Dempsey’s character, a billionaire named Jack?. This might sound a little surprising, considering where we left her. You would think that she and Darcy are still going strong.
For the December issue of EW, Zellweger revealed that, “…I like that she tells what it’s like to be a woman in these really relatable situations. It’s so right to tell a story about Bridget in this stage of her life”. Even if Darcy and Bridget are not in a good place at the beginning of the film, it’s kind of obvious (or is it?) that they’ll eventually find their way back to each other, because after all, he likes her very much, just as she is.
Firth, however, isn’t feeling all too sure of himself “Mark didn’t think Daniel was better than him. This guy Jack seems to be more of the charming good guy, and in some ways that’s scarier”. For those of you who were hoping to see Daniel Clever aka Hugh Grant make an appearance, I regret to inform you that he isn’t involved. But, oh well! It looks like Bridget has got enough drama on her hands anyway. Bridget Jones’s Baby hits cinemas on September 16, 2016.
