Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow have released the first image for the new, all-female spinoff from the Oceans franchise, titled Ocean’s 8.
The spinoff is directly related to the Steven Soderbergh films, which starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle and Bernie Mac, which themselves spawned from the original 1960 Ocean’s 11, which starred Frank Sinatra.
The new film will be helmed by Gary Ross, and stars Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean’s estranged sister, Debbie. The seriously star studded cast, as you can see, consists of Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway and Sarah Paulson.
The photo also included this brief synopsis:
“Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ first look at Ocean’s 8 from one of New York City’s most iconic locales: the subway”.
“In Summer 2018, the tide will turn as Debbie Ocean (Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Carter); Daphne Kluger (Hathaway); and Tammy (Paulson)”.
Soderbergh’s trilogy made over $1 billion worldwide, and this rebirth will want to be equally successful. The cast matches the star power of their male counterparts, hopefully their heist skills do as well.
Ocean’s 8 opens on June 8, 2018.
