What do you get when you team up one of our greatest living actors with one of our most underrated directors? If the trailer for Stronger is anything to go by; a seriously powerful film.
The first trailer has arrived for the film which is based on the story of Jeff Bauman, an ordinary man who became a symbol of hope and strength after losing his legs at the 2013 Boston marathon bombing.
Jake Gyllenhaal will portray Bauman, and unsurprisingly looks to be giving it his all in a truly heartfelt and emotional trailer which you can check out below:
The film is directed by David Gordon Green, who has had a truly eclectic career, ranging from fantastic indie dramas like George Washington to stoner comedies such as Pineapple Express, but he’s always been adept at crafting true emotion and introspection within his work, and in a rare trailer that genuinely tugs at the heartstrings without feeling forced, this story looks to be the perfect foil for his talents.
Unlike the recent Mark Wahlberg-led, Peter Berg-directed Patriots Day, Stronger looks to focus on the inner turmoil rather than the outer. The film has been completed for a while but was reportedly pushed back in order to get some distance from Berg’s film.
Alongside Gyllenhaal, the film stars Tatiana Maslany and Miranda Richardson and might benefit from being pushed back, as it’s currently slated for an awards-friendly release date of Friday, September 22.
