Netflix has debuted the first trailer for their highly-anticipated limited series, Maniac, which stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill and will be directed by Cary Fukunaga (Beasts Of No Nation, True Detective).
Created, written, and produced by Patrick Somerville (The Leftovers), the series tells the story of two strangers who are drawn into the late stages of a drug trial, where things begin to get really weird as they seemingly jump from one mind-bending reality to another.
The trailer looks to have the production value of a big feature film, yet crafting the story over the length of a mini-series should allow Maniac to dive into the pysche of its characters and the surreal world surrounding them even deeper.
It’s a real coup for Netflix to have genuine stars such as Stone and Hill in a limited series, and combine those with the talent of Somerville and Fukunaga, and a supporting cast that includes Sally Field and Justin Theroux, and Maniac has the makings of being the kind of must-see series every network and streaming service is constantly hunting for.
All episodes of Maniac will be available on Netflix on Friday, September 21.
