“This meant everything to us”, says frontman Yannis Philippakis, right after their performance at Reading Festival. “When Foals started it was the first one that felt like it was supportive from the beginning”. Back in 2007, Foals first played the festival as newcomers.

“When Melvin offered us the Latitude headline slot we didn’t think we were ready”, Yannis explained. “I am pretty sure without someone like Melvin giving us the option to do something out of our comfort zone, we would have stayed in our comfort zone”.

Melvin Benn, who runs Festival Republic, said “If you don’t ever give a band the chance to play the main stage they won’t ever become a main stage band.” In the past, he’s put Two Door Cinema Club, Alt-J and Foals their debut at the top spot.
