Adam Nimoy – son of legendary Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy, has surpassed his goal on fundraising website Kickstarter for a campaign to create a documentary named For the Love of Spock. The documentary will celebrate the sci-fi show’s 50th year, which first aired on September 8, 1966. The film is due to be narrated by Zachary Quinto, who played Mr. Spock in the two recent Star Trek films. The owner and president of Paramount-based 455 Films is set to produce.
The Kickstarter campaign was launched on the 3rd of June, a month after the tragic passing of his father Leonard, and more than 8,863 people responded to Adam’s 24 hour remaining plea, last week for more funds to achieve the goal. Nimoy Jr stated: “the funding of this film through Kickstarter will enable us to continue with production — which will mostly take the form of filming interviews of Dad’s friends, colleagues and family members“.
“It will also enable us to license the hundreds of film clips and still photographs of Mr. Spock as he has appeared on television and in feature films over the last 50 years. Funding will then buy us time in the editing room, where I will be poring over the film clips and photographs and never-before-seen home movies as well as Star Trek artifacts — some of which have not seen the light of day for nearly 50 years”, Nimoy Jr concluded. The campaign made the announcement via Twitter that it had surpassed its funding goal and the documentary will indeed go ahead.
