Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Announce ‘Bandana Beats’ Album | Music News

An instrumental version of Madlib and Freddie Gibbs 2019 album of the year candidate Bandana is to be released later this month.

Due on January 31, Bandana Beats follows Piñata Beats as the second MadGibbs collaboration to be released in instrumental format. Credited solely to Madlib, the album will be his second of the year following the January 17 release of his collaborative album with rapper Oh No, his younger brother.

Madlib and Gibbs had a blockbuster 2019, following up on the success of their 2014 album Piñata with the even more accomplished Bandana after a five year wait. On the latter, Madlib cemented his position as one of hip hop’s most imaginative producers whilst Gibbs emerged as one of the genre’s foremost voices.

The project saw the release of four music videos to accompany the singles “Crime Pays”, “Giannis”, “Half Manne Half Cocaine” and “Gat Damn”, as well as an extensive tour, which will culminate in their recently announced performances at Coachella later this year.

Here’s to hoping that it won’t be another five years before this most inimitable of pairings returns with new music. The LP version of Bandana Beats can be pre-ordered at www.rappcats.com.
