Gemma Arterton (Prince Of Persia, Byzantium) has been cast to play Marilyn Monroe in a one-off episode of the upcoming season of Urban Myths. She’ll play the role in the episode titled It’s Me, Sugar, which will focus on Monroe’s rumoured difficulty saying the line in the film Some Like It Hot, which some say was caused by her heavy drinking.
Urban Myths is a comedy drama that airs on Sky Arts, with each episode featuring a story surrounding famous figures that may or may not be true. Famous names such as Muhammad Ali, Bob Dylan and Cary Grant are just some of the notable celebrities that were featured in the first season which aired in early 2017.
Alongside Arterton, James Purefoy is in line to play the Some Like It Hot director Billy Wilder in the episode.
While it’s not a high-profile portrayal of the blonde bombshell like Michelle Williams‘ lead role in the 2011 film My Week With Marilyn, which earned her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win, it will still be a chance for Arterton to explore a dynamic figure in pop culture, if only for a short time.
