Graham Norton has vowed to quit his chat show within 8 years amid fears that the only guests he will attract will be TOWIE stars. The TV funny man said at a Times+ event in London, “you want to get out when people are still watching your show, you don’t want it to be when people say, ‘That is still on, that is still a thing?’, this is the 18th year of me doing a chat show. We’ve been working up to this moment of being on BBC One on that prime Friday night slot, so we’ve always been inching forward in those 18 years“.
Norton also went on to say, “the thing no one wants is the inching backwards, where you’re kind of going, ‘Yes the cast of ‘TOWIE’ can come on…’ That’s about retiring when you’re on top. I’m not jumping tomorrow, but it is in my head. You want to get out when you can still enjoy your life. I do love my job. I might really miss it and then I will feel like an absolute fool. You can’t come back. You could only come back to do ‘I’m a Celebrity’ or ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ or really awful things“.
Graham Norton first hosted his own TV chat show in 1998 called So Graham Norton on Channel 4. The next episode of The Graham Norton Show is on the 26th of June at 10.35pm. Personally I’ll be sad when he decides to call it a day, its an excellent and extremely funny show.
