On June 9, 2023, Swedish artist Albin Lee Meldau graced the music scene with his poignant new release “When You Are Here”.
Co-written with the renowned Egg White and co-produced by the talented Nick Lobel, the song resonates with raw, unfiltered emotion, thanks to Albin’s powerful vocal performance. Its lyrical canvas, steeped in despair, remorse, and powerlessness, poignantly captures the artist’s personal upheaval and the bittersweet memories of a past love.
“‘When You’re Here’ is a plaintive ballad of love and loss. It contrasts the euphoria of companionship with the desolation of separation,” Albin candidly reveals.
The music video poignantly reflects the song’s themes, portraying a couple torn apart by distance yet united in emotional turmoil, symbolised by ceaseless rain. Each partner reacts differently to their situation: the woman dances, an emblem of newfound freedom, while the man visibly struggles with heartbreak and inconsolability.
Albin Lee Meldau first gained international recognition in 2016 with his debut single “Lou Lou”, a success that landed him a coveted performance slot at a Tiny Desk session for NPR Music.
His trajectory soared with the release of his debut album “About You” in 2018, which was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Singer-Songwriter category and achieved multiple Platinum certifications, Top 10 hits in Scandinavia, and widespread European airplay.
Throughout his career, Meldau has amassed numerous accolades, including the Anchor awards at the prestigious Reeperbahn Festival.
He’s shared the stage with the likes of Leon Bridges and Jessie Ware, collaborated with distinguished songwriters and producers such as Justin Parker and Jimmy Napes, and, most recently, teamed up with Eg White and Nick Lobel to produce “When You Are Here”.
