The world of rave music has lost one of its founding fathers, as Guru Josh, the man behind the 90’s club anthem “Infinity“, has passed away at the age of 51. Guru Josh, who’s real name was Paul Walden, had been living in Ibiza, where he was running 2 businesses.

His agent Sharron Elkabas confirmed that Guru Josh died on Monday (December 28) although the cause of his death is not yet known. In paying tribute to him, Elkabas described Guru Josh as “without a doubt one of the biggest characters in the business and an immensely talented and creative person. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with him – he will be missed. RIP Paul Walden“.

Things could have been very different for Guru Josh if he hadn’t swapped his dentistry studies for a career in music. But things weren’t plain sailing after that: many DJs initially refused to play “Infinity”; it wasn’t until Hacienda DJ Mike Pickering gave his seal of approval, that the track entered the mainstream, and reached no. 5 in the UK charts.
