“This April, every monster needs a mother…”
HBO have released a 90-second teaser trailer for the new miniseries The Baby, a dark comedy about the realities of motherhood. The British show is set to premiere on April 24, 2022, just two weeks before Mother’s Day in the U.S.
The series follows 38-year-old Natasha (Michelle De Swarte) a single woman who has never wanted a child, who suddenly finds herself looking after one. As shown in the trailer, the baby mysteriously falls out of the sky and lands in Natasha’s arms who then asks, “what happens now?”
Natasha soon realises that this baby is not normal – it is manipulative, controlling and possesses violent powers. The deadly baby turns Natasha’s life into surreal nightmare and provides a satirical commentary on how hard motherhood can be.
The characters are played by a plethora of British female actresses, ranging from Michelle De Swarte (The Duchess) to Isy Suttie (Peep Show) and Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education).
The miniseries also boasts a female-dominant crew. It is directed by Nicole Kassell, Ella Jones, Stacey Gregg and Faraz Shariat and co-written by Kara Smith, Susan Soon He Stanton, Anchuli Felicia King and Sophie Goodhart. The executive producers are Carolyn Strauss, Katie Carpenter, Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear and Nicole Kassell.
The Baby is a co-production between HBO, Sky and Sister and will be available to UK audiences on Sky. You can watch the trailer for the comedy-horror series below:
