The General Elections are nothing without the election night show hosted by David Dimbleby, however that is all to change, the veteran broadcaster being replaced by News Anchor Huw Edwards – an unsurprising move whilst raising troubling questions over Dimbleby’s future at the BBC, who has hosted the General Elections Results Show since 1979.
However Huw Edwards had been expected to present last years general elections show before it became Dimbleby’s swansong and doubts were raised about Edward’s future role when the Guardian reported that Dimbleby would front the EU referendum results night on the 23rd of June. The BBC has today though confirmed the prior, a spokesman moving to quash such doubts, commenting:
“Huw Edwards will anchor all the BBC’s main election programming up to and including the general election of 2020.”
