I can’t think of anybody I’d rather see play an aging Sherlock Holmes over Ian McKellen, so it’s a pretty good job he’s starring in Bill Condon‘s new Mr.Holmes and it’s even better that there’s a new clip! Based on the novel A Slight Trick of The Mind, the story will focus on the later years of retired Holmes at the tender age of 93. Adapting from that story, Condon is set to deliver a charming and unique story. Take a look at the official synopsis;
“MR. HOLMES is a new twist on the world’s most famous detective.1947, an aging Sherlock Holmes returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it’s too late.”
Having previously worked together on Gods And Monsters, it will be interesting to see Condon and McKellen back together in this interesting genre. Condon is pretty lucky that McKellen is one of Britain’s most favourite men because he’s giving him a much needed reputation boost after his two shocking Twilight: Breaking Dawn flicks. Also staring Laura Linney, Mr. Holmes will arrive in theatres 2015.
