Idris Elba to play Shere Khan in ‘Jungle Book’ remake

Golden Globe award winner Idris Elba is set to voice the character of Shere Khan from the classic children’s tale Jungle Book for Disney’s upcoming live action/CGI remake. Shere Khan is the killer tiger who repeatedly tries to kill the story’s protagonist Mowgli, who he sees as a threat. The special effects will be managed by Rob Legato who is responsible for the film effects for Avatar while Jon Favreau will direct the film.

Filming for Jungle Book will begin later this Summer and the film will premiere in US cinemas on October 9, 2015. Idris Elba’s last film role was his portrayal of Nelson Mandela alongside Naomie Harris in Mandela: The Long Walk To Freedom and he can next be seen alongside Taraji P. Henson this autumn in Good Deeds, which he executive-produced.
