In a podcast interview that will shock and upset fans for a while, Rick and Morty writer Ryan Ridley alluded to the possibility of a 2019 release date for the show’s fourth season. Speaking to The Detroit Cast, Ridley disclosed that as far as he was aware no one had even started working on the new season yet.
“They really take their time. I never understood why everybody … didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast … I’m sure they all have their reasons. I know how long this show takes to write, let alone animate. I’d be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air anytime sooner than 2019… late 2019…”
Season 3 of the show aired last year on Adult Swim and broke through to the mainstream with witty and humorous references and now had become a staple show amongst great animated shows.
In fairness, it seems like not everyone on the team is in favour of the delays so with that and possible social media support, we may see the long-awaited fourth season arrive sooner rather than later.
