With an exceptional track record of three consecutive double-platinum singles and two more platinum-certified tracks, Ananya Birla, India’s leading English-language pop star, has been garnering global recognition.
Her international acclaim has fetched her over 500 million streams, an MTV EMA nomination, and collaborations with top artists like Sean Kingston and Afrojack. Ananya now gears up to amplify her global footprint with her latest single, “Caught Up“.
“Caught Up” is an enticing blend of modern R&B, infectious Afrobeats rhythms, and traditional Indian instrumentation, producing a refreshing take on contemporary pop music.
Ananya’s vocals are captivating – a blend of sweet, sensual, and seductive tones – narrating the story of a destructive relationship marked by co-dependency, miscommunication, and acknowledgment of a harsh reality: “I’m bad for you and you’re bad for me too.”
The accompanying music video metaphorically represents the confines of the relationship, shot within the limited boundaries of a room, depicting the struggle to break free.
Reflecting on her musical journey, Ananya commented, “As an artist and as a human, I am constantly trying to do better and be better. The pandemic made me appreciate home even more, inspiring me to integrate a unique Indian flavor into my sound in a non-stereotypical way. ‘Caught Up’, is the first song in this new soundscape and I am thrilled to share it and everything that’s to come.”
Grammy Award winners Kaydence (known for their work with Beyoncé, Ariana Grande) and Trevor Muzzy (who worked with Lady Gaga, Jason Derulo) wrote “Caught Up”, and it was produced by M.A.R.S.
Ananya’s musical roots run deep, with her learning her first instrument, the santoor, at the age of 9. She continued to expand her musical repertoire with drums, piano, and guitar, which still play a pivotal role in her artistry.
Ananya has achieved acclaim with releases including ‘Meant To Be’, ‘Circles’, ‘Better’, and ‘Everybody’s Lost’. This has seen her fanbase rapidly grow with features including New Music Friday USA and a spotlight moment as a Sirius Hits Artist To Watch Out For. She also collaborated with the iconic A.R. Rahman for “Hindustani Way”, the official anthem for India’s 2020 Olympics team.
Despite her substantial success in music, Ananya has also made her mark as a philanthropist and businesswoman. At 17, she founded Svatantra Microfin, India’s fastest-growing microfinance company. She also founded the Ananya Birla Foundation and co-founded Mpower, which promotes mental health awareness.
In recognition of her numerous accomplishments, Ananya was named one of GQ’s Most Influential Young Indians, one of Miss Vogue’s 28 Geniuses Under 28, and one of Economic Times’ Most Promising Women Business Leaders of 2022.
Ananya’s multifaceted talent and undeniable charm continue to shine, making her one of the most exciting global artists to watch. With ‘Caught Up’, Ananya Birla takes another significant step in her international music career, promising a series of exciting developments in the future.
