With series such as ITV’s current Beowulf and BBC’S recent The Last Kingdom, it seems that TV channels are always on the lookout for their own successor to HBO’s Game Of Thrones. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reckons it has found a worthy follow-up in the form of its new series Of Kings And Prophets, which premieres on ABC on March 8. On a press tour which took place January 9, executive producer Chris Brancato went as far as to call ABC’s new primetime series ” a non-dragon version of Game Of Thrones”.
Anyone who knows and loves the original series, will probably agree that dragons are half the fun of Game Of Thrones – so “no dragons” might just be a deal-breaker here. Of Kings And Prophets uses the biblical Books of Samuel as its starting point to explore the lives of Saul and David, Kings of Israel. Brit actor Ray Winstone stars as Saul, so perhaps that King will have a slightly Cockney accent?
