I first discovered JUSTY (stylized as J U S T Y) on Submithub and while she has released a few records since we first introduced her to you, I think she’s really going for it with her brand new music. The 23-year old Staten Island artist is lining up her her debut album titled Soul Food: An Album for release on November 11.
According to her press copy, “serving as her first extended length project, Soul Food (Engineered by Ryan Pearson) features an array of r&b, hip-hop, and jazz influenced tracks, each revealing a deeper level of thought surrounding; love, friendship, industry and political climates, and self awareness. Recorded from her own residence, the project offers an organic sound and approach to an emotional delivery“.
She has just dropped off the album’s lead single titled “Insecure“, which was produced by Lug Soda and is available on all DSPs right now. The record somehow reminds me of noname slightly, who by the way is releasing a new album this month but alas I digress. This is not a comparison site and I don’t want any “she isn’t anything like noname” in the comments, if you can’t hear it, that’s fine. JUSTY is an exciting prospect, no comparisons needed.
So about “Insecure”, Justy paints a picture of an independent artist who is trying to provide for her family while also being able to pursue their dreams. This one is emotional vulnerability at its best (or worst depending on how you feel about the struggle artists have to face over whether to pursue their art or a cheque). In any case, I like “Insecure” and I reckon you will too. Purchase “Insecure” on iTunes here and stream it below.
