The young actor who captivated audiences worldwide with his performance in Room is in negotiations to star with Julia Roberts in the adaptation of P.J.Palacio‘s acclaimed novel, Wonder. If all goes to plan he will take on the lead of Auggie, a bright child with facial deformity, who goes through the challenge of fitting at school after he has been homeschooled his whole life.
Palacio’s novel is written from a first account of Auggie’s experience, brimming with the vitality and enthusiasm we have already seen Tremblay can bring to screen. It should also probably help a little that Auggie is a passionate Star Wars fan.
Julia Roberts, meanwhile, who, at this point, also has yet to sign on officially, will take on the role of his mother. The book has won several prestigious awards, including the Waterstones Children’s Book Award and the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award.
Here, it will adapted for the screen by Steve Conrad (The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty) and the film, which is currently in pre-production, will be directed by Paul King (Paddington).
In the meantime, Jacob Tremblay will be seen next in Colin Trevorrow‘s mysterious project, The Book Of Henry, as well as Jordan Roberts’ adventure film, Burn Your Maps, both set for a release this year.
