Jada Pinkett-Smith has queried whether Hollywood figures from ethnic backgrounds should boycott his years Oscars awards ceremony over lack of diversity. On Twitter she expressed her disappointment at the Academy’s failure to nominate any non-whites for any of the major prizes.

“At the Oscars … people of colour are always welcomed to give out awards … even entertain,” she wrote, adding: “But we are rarely recognised for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of colour refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment.”

As a result, the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite has once again trended on Twitter.
