Following the success of his critically-acclaimed debut EP Complexion and selling out both his debut headline shows at Notting Hill Arts Club and Omeara in London, emerging UK R&B artist James Vickery returns with brand new music from his upcoming sophomore EP with new track “Violet“.
Vickery’s superb falsetto over a stripped-back piano sample and a subtle beat mixing trap and gospel influences, is sure to continue to generate intrigue around a UK artist whose recent performance on COLORS Berlin has now passed 2M views – seeing him join the likes of Billie Eilish, Daniel Caesar and Tom Misch in viral numbers.
Speaking on the track, James states: “‘Violet‘ is a play on words for feeling Blue. It’s around a point when you feel everything is trying to keep you from being with your significant other, but despite all the signs and the negative aura surrounding it, you would never let anything keep you from being together. It’s feel-good, warm, which in my opinion, is everything a good relationship should represent.”
With his debut EP clocking up millions of streams online, gaining radio support from BBC R1’s Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Jamz Supernova, he’s now been working with the likes of Joe Hertz and Maths Time Joy as well as supporting SG Lewis at his sold-out show. Catch him on September 17 at his own headline show at The Jazz Café before he hits the road for a run of European shows towards the end of the year.
