Former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has recorded a spoken-word tribute concerning the terror attacks in Paris on November 13. Cocker, who has lived in the French capital for many years, released the particularly poignant track on his BBC 6 Music show, Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service.
The piece features many references to the events, as well as the personal experience of the singer on the day itself. Cocker’s lyrics focus unequivocally on the nature of freedom, with a sample line being: “The strongest statement of resistance is to just keep going“. The show also featured music from fellow Parisians Serge Gainsbourg and Chilly Gonzales.
