With radio play and a mass of support behind her, DIY artist JDA has finally released her third single “Sublime“, a melancholy follow up to her previous distinctive singles that have already made waves. Self-producing, writing and recording all of her material, JDA is a one-woman show, a creative force to be reckoned with.
Taking inspiration from the theme of SZA’s single “The Weekend“, “Sublime“, produced by JDA unsurprisingly, is a funk driven, lo-fi tune with a nod to old school R&B and a modern twist, taken to another level with the lyrical help of HAYCHE Grimm. It details a tale of love, lust and game-playing, putting the listener into the shoes of someone else, a testament to JDA’s songwriting ability.
Taking influence from UK Trip-Hop, RnB and soul, and from artists such as Kali Uchis, Mahalia and Jaz Karis, JDA’s sound encompasses minimalist production proving that less is more. Combined with heartbreak song writing and a distinctive dreamlike ambience, JDA presents music that is both striking and unusual.
