The newest track from Jessie Reyez is the heart-breaking and purely honest “Cotton Candy“. The stripped-down single features her emotional vocals and simple repetitive guitar strums. That’s all it takes to fully express her hurtful feelings through the music.
The singer-songwriter has shared her song with a brief explanation:
“This one was made in my living room a year ago – the same heart break as ‘Figures’. The tears tasted the same. Me, a mic, a laptop, loss of appetite and rivers running down my face. Nothing sweet about it, so I figured it needed balance.”
“Figures” is Jessie’s most famous track, featured in her debut EP Kiddo, which was released in April this year. Her music varies between passionate pop/R&B ballads and harder hip-hop influenced rhymes. All of her tunes have a unique and soulful touch, which makes the listeners believe the realness of it.
Toronto-based Colombian artist started off from collaborations with King Louie, Chance the Rapper, Diplo, Skrillex, but her break-out as a solo artist was inevitable. Her latest single will prove you why, listen to it below:
