John Cena & Jason Bateman To Team Up For Action-Comedy At Netflix | Film News

Wrestler-turned-actor John Cena has quickly established himself as a bit of a comedy king, pulling off a starring turn in Blockers, and also giving memorable supporting performances in Trainwreck, Sisters and Daddy’s Home over the last few years. He’s now set to team up with comedy veteran Jason Bateman for a currently untitled action-comedy at Netflix.

Cena will star in the film, while Bateman will direct from a script written by Mark Perez, who wrote arguably the best comedy film of last year, Game Night, which starred Bateman and Rachel McAdams. Bateman is also expected to play some sort of supporting role in this film. This deal re-teams him with Netflix, where his dark drama Ozark resides.

The project reportedly follows a family that gets stuck in an abandoned movie studio where the sets come to life, trapping them in various old films. It’s hard to know right now if we’re looking at something more Night At The Museum or more Ready Player One when it comes to the old-movie-references-with-a-genre-spin, but the former seems more likely with Bateman behind the camera.

Either way, Cena is adept at both, having just come off the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, which already has a sequel in the works. He’s also set to star alongside Jackie Chan in Project X-Traction, which begins shooting next month. This project will be Bateman’s second directorial effort after 2013’s Bad Words.
