John David Washington Replaces Michael B. Jordan In David O. Russell’s Next Project | Film News

Tenet star John David Washington is replacing Michael B. Jordan in David O. Russell‘s latest movie. The reasons for Jordan’s departure are unclear, although it’s likely due to scheduling. Jordan has a third Creed movie and another collaboration with Ryan Coogler – the true story drama Wrong Answer – in the works, so one of those projects might be to do with it.

Thus, Washington takes over. He joins Christian Bale and Margot Robbie for the film that’s currently going by the working title Amsterdam. All that is currently known about the film is that it follows the unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer.

This is obviously another feather in the cap for Washington, the former running back who played in NFL Europe before transitioning to acting like his father, Denzel. Since then he’s been in movies such as the aforementioned Tenet, BlacKkKlansman, and The Old Man And The Gun and has developed a nice career for himself.

Those movies may just be the first rung of the ladder though, as Washington has since signed on for projects such as the Netflix romance Malcolm & Marie alongside Zendaya, and Born To Be Murdered, which also stars Alicia Vikander and Boyd Holbrook.

This will be Russell’s first film since 2015’s Joy. He will reportedly direct from his own script, while legendary cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki is on board to shoot. The project has been set up at New Regency and will be distributed through New Regency’s deal with 20th Century Studios.

We now wait to hear more concrete details on what the film three big stars have signed onto is actually about.
