Fast-rising South London born artist Johnson Orchid has unveiled his brand new single ‘Girl’, soaked in an exciting 90’s R&B and UK Garage nostalgic vibe and bringing his glorious vocals and song-writing to the fore, as Orchid takes us down memory lane, with what can only be described as his best offering yet.
Premiered on SBTV, ‘Girl’ comes as Johnson Orchid’s highly anticipated follow up to his 2014 offering “I’ll Be There” which saw the London native collaborate with Grime veteran JME for its critically acclaimed remix project, which was championed by the likes of BBC 1Xtra, MOBO Awards, Wonderland Magazine and Alt Sounds among others.
Sonically conjuring up warm feelings and memories of a young Craig David and a buzzing UK Garage scene circa 1999, ‘Girl’ was written by Orchid himself with Shae Jacob, and produced by Harmony Samuels protégé Mikey (SOS), who has previously worked for Ariana Grande, The Saturdays and French Montana among others.
Speaking about his new record, Johnson Orchid describes ‘Girl’ as “based on what we all seem to do without knowing – bringing past relationships and baggage into new ones, whether it be insecurities, trust issues, or a broken heart, and having it affect our current relationships”. ‘Girl’ is scheduled for release via Sagsco on March 9, with a collaboration with Scorcher coming soon. Bask in the nostalgia and enjoy the visual stream of the single below.
