Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, and Richard Madden are all on board to star in Killer Heat, a new thriller in development from Amazon Studios. Philippe Lacôte (Night of the Kings) will direct the film, which will be based on Jo Nesbø‘s 2021 short story The Jealousy Man.
The film will revolve around twin brothers – both played by Madden – who get caught up in a violent love triangle on a remote Greek island, and the damaged detective known as ‘The Jealousy Man’ (Gordon-Levitt), who is called in to investigate.
Roberto Bentivegna (House of Gucci) has written the script, with revisions by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies). Makeready’s Brad Weston is producing the film, while Gordon-Levitt will also executive produce the project alongside Nesbø.
Let’s hope this adaptation of Nesbø’s work goes better than the last one, which turned into disastrous thriller The Snowman. That project has terrible production problems that led to around 15% of the script going unfilmed, while Val Kilmer suffered an enlarged tongue and had to film his scenes without visibly speaking in order to allow for easier post-production dubbing.
Unsurprisingly, the film was torn apart by critics. As long as Amazon allows Lacôte to film the entirety of Bentivegna and Charman’s script, they should end up with a better product than that.
Gordon-Levitt was recently seen in John Carney‘s Flora and Son, which garnered rave reviews at Sundance and will have a wide release soon. He’ll next be seen across from Eddie Murphy in belated sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
Woodley will be seen later this year in comedy-drama Dumb Money alongside Seth Rogen and Paul Dano, thriller To Catch a Killer, sci-fi romcom Robots, and Michael Mann‘s highly anticipated Enzo Ferrari biopic Ferrari, which stars Adam Driver.
Madden is best known for his breakout role on Game of Thrones as well as key performances in Eternals, Rocketman, and Bodyguard. He’ll next star opposite Priyanka Chopra Jonas in another Amazon project, Citadel, which begins streaming later this month.
Production on Killer Heat is set to begin production next month in Crete.
