Julia Roberts plays a happy and welcoming mother in the first teaser trailer for the Peter Hedges directed movie Ben Is Back.
The flick follows 19-years old Ben, played by Lucas Hedges, who “unexpectedly returns home to his family’s suburban home on Christmas Eve morning. Ben’s mother, Holly (Roberts), is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son staying clean. Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother’s undying love for her son is tested as she does everything in her power to keep him safe”.
The first look at the movie shows a family drama that puts the edges on this mother and son relationship. Julia Roberts, who does not need any introduction, gives off award season’s vibes, while Hedges, who will next be seen in another Oscar contender Boy Erased, is slowly making a name for himself as the new Young Hollywood indie star.
Family dramas always do well on award season, and with this year Toronto International Film Festival as the next stop, I’m sure there will be a lot of buzz surrounding the flick that will hopefully push it towards the competition.
The movie also stars Courtney B. Vance and Kathryn Newton and is scheduled for a December 7 release.
