Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts has come on board to produce and star in Amazon Studios’ feature adaptation of Chris Cleave‘s 2008 best-selling novel Little Bee.
Directed by Ritesh Batra, the film has actress-writer Kathleen Robertson attached to adapt Cleave’s book, which is a dual narrative about a young Nigerian asylum-seeker named ‘Little Bee’ who meets a British magazine editor (Roberts) for the first time during the oil conflict in the Niger Delta, and then again in England several years later.
Roberts will produce via her Red Om Films production company along with Gil Netter and her usual producing partners Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill.
Nicole Kidman was previously reported to star in and produce a Little Bee adaptation for BBC Films back in 2009, but the project never came to fruition.
