With the documentary Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around The World premiering at the Slamdance Film Festival this weekend, more news has appeared on an apparent film adaptation, with Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts set to produce and star in the film! The documentary recounts the famous, real-life events that played out when San Francisco partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to give Grant Scott, a five year old boy with Leukemia, the chance to be Batkid! Take a look at the documentary synopsis below;
“BATKID BEGINS: THE WISH HEARD AROUND THE WORLD follows the events leading up to the day Batkid saved San Francisco and what happens when an event goes unintentionally viral. The goal that day was to get a couple hundred people to show up to support Miles Scott and his wish to become Batkid, after battling leukemia for more than half his short life. Instead of a few hundred, 25,000 people lined the streets to cheer Miles on as he saved Gotham”.
The story captured everybody’s hearts, even Julia Roberts. After hearing that she’d like to adapt the documentary, director Dana Nachman had this to say; “It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do”.
This film could end up being huge with a star like Roberts behind it and I don’t doubt that other big names are likely to become attached to it. Say what you will about Hollywood, they’ve done good on this one. The Batkid Begins documentary will have its world premiere this Saturday, January 24 at noon in Park City at Slamdance Film Festival 2015.
