According to Billboard, the first source of the news, a Kanye West documentary is coming to Netflix!
The documentary will feature the exclusive archival footage of the rapper spanning over the last two decades. The series will cover Kanye’s music career, fashion business, his 2020 presidential bid and such personal life aspects as the death of his mother, Donda West.
The untitled project will come from Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, who co-directed the rapper’s 2003 “Through The Wire” music video as well as the third version of “Jesus Walks”.
The directing duo has also previously directed ESPN’s 2012 30-for-30 film, Benji and the Netflix documentary on Stephon Marbury titled A Kid From Coney Island. Alongside Clarence and Chike, the Kanye West documentary will be produced by TIME Studios.
The Kanye documentary was acquired by Netflix for $30 million and now it is expected to land on the streaming platform later this year.
On top of that news, it is known that an additional Kanye documentary by his former bodyguard has been pitched and is reportedly “still in discussions with multiple platforms”, as the Billboard claims.
Earlier last month, Kanye won his first Christian Music/Gospel Grammy Award and his 22nd Grammy in general through his music career. Winning in the nomination Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for Jesus Is King marked his first Grammy since 2013.
The rap artist taking over the Gospel nomination and making outstanding music material is an absolute phenomenon. Who knows probably this moment will also be in the upcoming documentary series?
