Last night (August 30), Kanye West was presented with the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards Show in Los Angeles. His acceptance speech stretched to an impressive eight minutes as he produced a special yet rather verbose lecture that attempted to set the world to rights.
During his speech he covered a variety of topics that included a passionate message to teach our kids “to believe in themselves“, a reference to a conversation he had with his daughter about fresh juice in a grocery store and freely admitting to getting stoned before the show. The whole piece climaxed with the declaration that “as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decide in 2020 to run for president“, at which point he dropped the mic and exited the stage to a standing ovation.
Obviously this declaration has caused a massive reaction on the internet with some people taking to Twitter to speculate on what may be happening in the Oval Office at the end of 2020. We now have a tantalizing wait of 5 years until we find out if Kanye’s statement will become groundbreaking reality or just a gust of hot air. Read the full transcript of his speech here via GQ.
