Chanel drawings, his first yellow wool coat created in 1945 and a replica of his Parisian desk all feature at the Karl Lagerfeld Modemethode Exhibition which opens this weekend in Germany. Spanning Lagerfeld’s fifty year career from his beginnings in his native Germany to Fendi and his current reign at Chanel, the exhibition – which is themed ‘Paper to Paper’ – reaches a conclusion in the ‘Paper Palace’, surrounded by haute couture gowns from Lagerfeld’s extensive career and blank notepads ready for his next collection. The exhibition which is on until September 13 in the Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn, in Cologne also features illustrations picked by museum curator Rein Wolfs, who had over 40,000 to choose from.
