Kate Winslet is returning to the small screen to star in another limited series for HBO. Having previously played the title role in Todd Haynes‘ Mildred Pierce back in 2011, she will now star in Mare Of Easttown.
She will reportedly play a small-town Pennsylvania detective whose life crumbles around her as she investigates a local murder. Brad Ingelsby (Out Of The Furnace) has created the series and will serve as showrunner, while Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) will be directing all the episodes.
Winslet is the latest big star HBO have been able to bring in for a turn in a limited series, following stars such as Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman in Big Little Lies, Amy Adams in Sharp Objects, and Mahershala Ali in the latest season of True Detective. It’s perhaps no surprise Winslet was willing to work with the American network again after her turn in Mildred Pierce won her an Emmy.
With their massive hit Game Of Thrones soon coming to an end, HBO have been working hard developing other projects (and Thrones-related prequels), so getting Winslet back on board is a coup. The actress rarely picks poor projects, so Mare Of Easttown will be something worth tracking. Hopefully we’ll soon get news of when it is scheduled to head into production.
