Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen are teaming up to star in Super Toys, the new film by David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle). The project is expected to be sold to a distributor at the European Film Market in Berlin, which begins next week.
Russell will also write the script for the film, which follows Palmer and Cohen as a pair of groovy 1970s toy sales reps on a life-and-death mission to save themselves, their marriage, and their live-wire 12-year-old daughter while on the road in Middle America.
Little else is known about the project right now, but Palmer and Cohen sound like a surprising but fun combo, and the film’s tone sounds reminiscent of Russell’s other work, which usually straddles the line between earnest drama and dark comedy. His latest film was mystery caper Amsterdam, which arrived late last year.
Palmer had a great 2022 thanks to starring in Jordan Peele‘s Nope. She also played the title role in crime thriller Alice, and lended her voice to both Disney/Pixar film Lightyear and the first season of Big Mouth spinoff, Human Resources.
This will be Cohen’s first live-action film role since Borat Subsequent Moviefilm back in 2020, although he did also lend his voice to the Disney/Pixar film Luca. He’s also currently working on upcoming psychological thriller series Disclaimer for Apple TV+, which will star Cate Blanchett.
There will likely be more info regarding Super Toys in the coming months.
