Casting has reportedly begun for Jordan Peele‘s new horror movie, and Keke Palmer (Hustlers) has secured the female lead.
Palmer is the first actor officially cast, although there have been rumours that Daniel Kaluuya is returning to team up with Peele again after Get Out, while his Judas And The Black Messiah co-star Jesse Plemons may star as well, although a scheduling issue could prevent it.
Per Collider, even though no plot details are currently available, Palmer will play the antagonist of the film. She does actually have prior experience of working with Peele, as she made a guest appearance on the Key & Peele sketch show back in 2013.
Outside of Hustlers, Palmer has recently appeared in Facebook series Turnt Up With The Taylors and Scream: The TV Series, while she recently wrapped shooting on Krystin Ver Linden‘s upcoming slavery drama, Alice.
As mentioned, there’s no word yet on what Peele’s film is actually about, even though film fans are desperate to know anything about the Us follow-up. We do know that Peele has written the script and will produce alongside Ian Cooper under his Monkeypaw Productions banner, which has an exclusive five-year deal with Universal.
As a producer, Peele has been busy. He’s produced HBO’s Lovecraft Country and the CBS reboot of The Twilight Zone, where he also took over the Rod Serling hosting role.
He also produced Nia DaCosta‘s new version of Candyman, and he’s currently developing a new version of Wes Craven‘s The People Under The Stairs.
This is a huge coup for Palmer and will probably be the biggest role of her career. We’ll wait with fingers crossed as to whether Kaluuya does indeed return to collaborate again with Peele. And we’ll also wait to finally hear what the film is about. It does already have a release date set: July 22, 2022.
