The Afrobeats scene is pulsating to the rhythm of Kel-P‘s latest release, the genre prodigy, joined by Nigerian rap star Blaqbonez. Their new collaboration, “Warning!“, is a musical bombshell that blends energy and percussion to create an enchanting anthem.
“Warning!” is part of Kel-P’s upcoming EP, titled Bully Season Vol. 2, set to release on June 28 under the banners of Island Records UK, Virgin Music France/Virgin Music US/Jones Worldwide. This single playfully teases the idea that “pretty girls love Afrobeats,” promising a project that will continue to showcase Kel-P’s talent for getting crowds moving.
Born in Calabar, Kel-P experienced an early life marked by the loss of his mother. He moved to Lagos with his brother where he met his first musical mentor, Sarz. From there, his career as a producer took off, leading him to collaborate with heavyweights such as Burna Boy, Rema, Adekunle Gold, Davido, and Janelle Monáe.
But Kel-P doesn’t just stay in the shadows of the stars: in 2023, he launched himself as an artist with his EP Bully Season Vol.1. His standout single, “One More Night” brilliantly revisits Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s R&B classic, earning him international recognition.
The EP series, titled Bully Season holds significance for Kel-P. It reflects his journey, embodying his work ethic, wins, losses, relationships, and life leading up to the present moment. The name captures the essence of his creative process, where he taps into his inner “bully” to shake things up and achieve his goals.
His impressive musical journey has earned him prestigious awards, including a Grammy for his collaboration with Angélique Kidjo, and nominations for his contributions to albums like Burna Boy’s African Giant and Wizkid’s Made in Lagos: Deluxe Edition. His reputation as a hitmaker transcends borders, and his tag recognizable among thousands, “It’s Kel-P vibes” has become synonymous with guaranteed success.
