Kendrick Lamar‘s long-time sound engineer MixedByAli has hinted that the rapper may release his next solo album this year, to follow-up his album DAMN, which was released four years ago now.
In an interview with Complex News, Top Dawg Entertainment‘s sound engineer hinted at this news, as well as a few hints about the type of music we might hear from the Compton rapper.
“I would say every album that he has dropped since [2012’s] Good Kid, M.A.A.D City has come with a different feeling, so just look forward to Kendrick obviously expressing himself in the most creative way – the most highest of the creative way”, he said.
Although he did not explicitly say that the album would be released this year, there is a certain possibility. “It might, it might, you never know”, said Ali, “I mean, sh*t”.
Last October, Kendrick spoke out about the rather large gap between each of his solo album releases.
“I spend the whole year just thinking about how I’m gonna execute a new sound, I can’t do the same thing over and over”, he said. “I need something to get me excited. I see you get frustrated sometimes because you want some new s**t”.
Indeed, in 2015 Kendrick released his album To Pimp A Butterfly and it was two years later that we had the sequel with DAMN in 2017. It’s now been fours years since that we have been impatiently waiting for the follow-up of this album.
