Jason Statham and Kevin Hart have never starred in a film together, a surprise when you consider how their differences in persona have often been mined for buddy comedies in the past – many of them starring Hart. But it looks like they will indeed finally team up, as both are in talks to star in the action-comedy, The Man From Toronto.
“The Man from Toronto” is the alias for one of the world’s most vicious assassins (probably Statham, unless the studio is attempting some sort of Tango & Cash reverse on us). While Teddy is kind of a screw-up. But when the two are caught in a row of mistaken identities in an Airbnb, they must join forces and save the world — while trying not to kill each other in the process.
Patrick Hughes, who previously worked with Statham on The Expendables 3, will direct. He also helmed The Hitman’s Bodyguard, another buddy-based action comedy, so he’s got experience within this genre. Robbie Fox (Playing for Keeps) has penned the script, based on a story by Jason Blumenthal (The Equalizer 2).
The success of these buddy comedies are reliant on the chemistry of the two stars and the script, so who knows how The Man From Toronto will turn out. It is already scheduled to be released Friday, November 20, so they better get moving on production.
