This Friday will see the release of the full soundtrack for the upcoming remake of classic blaxploitation film Superfly. Curated by Hip-Hop’s very own Future, he has a hand in almost all of the songs on the project, following the footsteps of Kendrick Lamar and the Black Panther soundtrack. Except one. This latest cut comes by the way of Khalid and H.E.R., joining forces for “This Way“.
This is more of a sensual cut compared to previous singles like “No Shame“. Slower, more stripped back, driven by mellow keys and finished with an electric guitar present in the foreground, the two sing about old flames who have left them battered, broken-hearted, and ultimately “this way“. This is more of chilled vibe.
Superfly will see Director X at the helm as the director. Known for putting together stunningly beautiful music videos for big name acts like Drake, Justin Bieber and Kanye West, this is his first motion picture role. The movie will hit American cinemas on June 13 before meeting UK audiences in September.
